Tokyo

November 2023

A city of chaos, harmony and inspiration

In November 2023, I had the chance to visit Tokyo – one of the most densely populated cities in the world, which is simultaneously
a model of organized chaos. From the very first moments, I was struck by how perfectly this vast city functions. The Japanese even
have specially designed "pushers" at metro stations who help passengers fit into train cars during rush hour – all without any friction
or irritation. Tokyo is a place where harmony and chaos meet in perfect balance.

Culinary adventures and sensory explosion

Exploring Japanese cuisine was pure delight. At every turn, I encountered delicious treats that will stay with me for a long time – from bowls of hot ramen to freshly prepared sushi. Then there was Shibuya – a place where the sheer number of stimuli was dizzying. Countless neon lights, screens, sounds, and people – I had never experienced anything like it before. Together with my friend, we eagerly spent time in arcade game centers, which are hugely popular in Japan. Our favorite was Mario Kart, evoking childhood joy and giving us endless fun.

Fashion and shopping in Japan's capital

Tokyo is also a paradise for fashion lovers, especially those into streetwear. The Japanese have a unique approach to style – drawing from different eras and experimenting to create something truly original. I felt like a kid in a candy store, swept up in a shopping frenzy
as I visited iconic shops like BAPE, NEIGHBORHOOD, and Undercover, symbols of Japanese streetwear. I was greatly impressed not
only by the clothing designs but also by the atmosphere in these boutiques – it’s more than just fashion; it’s art.

Fascinating worlds – teamLab Planets

One of the most inspiring experiences was teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM – a digital art museum that redefines the concept
of interaction. The space is filled with installations that engage the senses and imagination, creating a surreal environment where you become part of the art. Fun fact: in one of the most popular installations, you enter barefoot into a water-filled space where light reacts
to your movements, creating unique patterns. It’s a feast for the senses and an excellent example of how UX can be elevated, offering visitors full immersion in an artistic world.

An unexpected surprise

On my last night in Tokyo, I stumbled upon an electronic music bar – an unplanned adventure. My phone was running out of battery
and being alone while shopping, I felt slightly lost, needing to head back to the hotel to recharge it. I was the only foreigner in the bar
and my tattoos drew extra attention. In Japan, tattoos are often associated with the yakuza, so I might have been seen as someone unusual. Initially, I felt the curious gazes, but soon people started approaching me and starting conversations. I met a few members
of a local electronic music label and discovered how music can break barriers. This experience made me realize that stepping out of one’s comfort zone can lead to meeting amazing people and having unforgettable experiences. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay until morning because the last metro left at 1 AM.

Tokyo's lessons

Tokyo taught me the value of embracing intensity and a wide range of experiences. Sometimes the best moments come when we break through our limitations and explore new possibilities. This city showed me that even in unfamiliar environments, meaningful connections and inspiration can be found. Every experience, even those that seem challenging at first, can bring valuable lessons and a fresh perspective on the world.
